The Black Pumas, a psychedelic soul duo out of Austin, Texas have quickly taken precedence since they released their debut album in 2019. Adrian Quesada, Grammy winning producer, was on a mission to find a soulful vocalist to pair with his retro-funk tracks. Making his rounds in Austin’s singer/songwriter scene, he found the perfect match, Eric Burton. Burton started his music journey in church and musical theater then moved to street performing at Santa Monica Pier before he found himself in the presence of Quesada in downtown Austin.
Black Pumas went from an idea to a session to an album. That album got the duo nominated for best new artist in the most recent 2020 Grammy’s Awards. Quesada was looking for the perfect match to help him recreate the Motown record, and Burton brought that with his original unorthodox theater background. KCRW describes the duo as “Wu-Tang Clan meets James Brown.” Quesada and Burton have an enchanting connection that Trondossa 2020 can’t wait to feature on the Main Stage!
Black Pumas perform Sunday May 17th at #Trondossa2020.
